The Super Eagles of Nigeria won a 2-0 against the Central African Republic on Sunday as Leon Balogun and Victor Osimhen scored in the first half of the match.
The matchday 4 World Cup qualifying match was played at the Japoma stadium, Douala, Cameroon three days after the encounter at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos.
After the Eagles lost a couple of chances, Balogun, on his fortieth cap for the Super Eagles broke the deadlock just before the half hour mark.
The Glasgow Rangers defender sprinted into Les Fauves box, beating the offside trap, connected with a well taken good long ball by Chidozie Awaziem, which flew over the Wild Beasts’ defense to slot home for the Super Eagles in the 29th minute.
The Eagles surged on with series of chances to add to their lead, but couldn’t get pass their opponents’ resilient defense line until Osimhen doubled the advantage just before the end of the first half.
Though the Super Eagles had a plethora of chances afterwards, they failed to convert it but they had done enough for the three points that keeps them at the summit in Group C with 9 points from four games.
