Barcelona: Pedri reacts to his €1 billion release clause at club

The Spaniard’s stock skyrocketed in the last few months and Barcelona responded by tying him down to a fresh long-term contract.

Pedri insists the €1 billion release clause on his new Barcelona deal is a “clear indication the club has its faith in me.”

Pedri played 53 games for Barcelona across all competitions last season, establishing his young self as a key part of the team and winning many admirers in the process.

The 18-year-old midfielder, who joined the Catalan Club from Las Palmas in August 2020, was reportedly a subject of interest for a few European heavyweights, including Liverpool.

However, he put an end to such speculations by putting pen to paper on a new contract at Barcelona until June 2026. His new contract includes a mighty €1 billion release clause, which very well reflects how much the club values the promising youngster.

“What matters is FC Barcelona’s plans rather than my clause, but it is clear indication the club has its faith in me.” the official Barcelona website quotes Pedri.

“I don’t know when I’ll be back” he said. “I’m very keen to return the trust by helping the best team in the world to win.”

Pedri is currently on the treatment table due to a muscle injury he suffered before the international break.
