Naira Abuse: Bobrisky files notice of appeal, challenges conviction

Controversial cross-dresser, Idris Olanrewaju Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, has filed a notice of appeal, challenging his conviction on four counts of currency abuse.

In the appeal, filed by his lawyer, Bimbo Kusanu, Bobrisky seeks to overturn the six-month prison sentence imposed on him, proposing instead a fine of (N50,000)Fifty Thousand Naira for each count.

Recall that On April 12, 2024, Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court, Lagos, sentenced Bobrisky to six months’ imprisonment without the option of a fine for abusing the Nigerian currency.

The judge emphasized that the verdict aimed to deter others from similar actions of currency abuse and mutilation.

On April 5, Bobrisky had pleaded guilty to the four-count charge brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
