Gabriel Jesus’ move away from Man City has been known for some time now and a purported transfer to the Emirates has topped the headlines in recent weeks. The deal is one that sat high on the priority list of Arsenal as they sought to replace the departed Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette. For Manchester City, the sale was warranted with the club already bolstering their attacking ranks with the arrivals of Julian Alvarez and Erling Haaland from River Plates and Borussia Dortmund respectively.
Arsenal’s London rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea have also been identified as potential suitors for Jesus, but it seems the Mikel Arteta’s men have already won the race for the attacker. According to Sky Sports and The Athletic, the Gunners have finally made a breakthrough in their negotiations, agreeing a deal worth $55.2M with the City.
Discussions are expected to be finalised over the weekend, with Jesus expected to sign a four-year contract with an option to extend a further year. The 25-year-old striker’s arrival would come after the London club completed a $40M signing of Porto midfielder Fabio Vieira.
In a bid to lead Arsenal back into the Champions League places, Mikel Arteta has instructed the club’s hierarchy to push for the signing of Leeds United’s Raphinha. After having an initial bid rejected, the Gunners are expected to go back in with an improved offer for the Barcelona, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur transfer target.
