An Ibadan-based businesswoman, who recently accused the University College Hospital (UCH) of medical negligence leading to the death of her five-month-old baby, has raised fresh alarm over alleged harassment by armed police officers.
In a series of emotional social media posts, the grieving mother narrated that armed officers stormed her office in her absence, questioning her trainees about whether she had truly lost her baby.
“They came with guns, looking for me. When they didn’t see me, they started asking my trainees if I really lost my child,” she wrote.
According to her, she was later contacted by someone claiming to be from Akobo Police Station, requesting her presence. Upon arrival, she said she was pointed out by about five police officers and taken to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO).
“I asked why I was being called in. The DPO called me an idiot and said I should be cursed. I only asked a simple question, but he ordered one of the officers to cuff me,” she alleged.
The woman further claimed that the officers shouted at her, pushed her toddler, and yelled at her mother. She added that another officer began recording her on a mobile phone before transferring her to Yemetu Police Station.
“UCH Ibadan, your negligence killed my baby and you didn’t even say sorry. Now you’re sending armed police to harass me,” she wrote.
