Ibadan was thrown into mourning late this afternoon as a horrific accident claimed the life of an elderly market woman and left several others battling for survival.
The tragic incident occurred around 4:00 PM on the Agbowo-Ojoo expressway, near the infamous blue container close to the repodun area and the Agbowo Express Police Station.
According to a shaken eyewitness who sent in the report, the calamity began when a speeding tanker, reportedly coming from Iwo Road, lost control and collided head-on with a Micra taxi making its way from Akinyele. The force of the impact was described as “devastating,” with the Micra crushed beyond recognition and screams filling the air.

Tragically, among the passengers was an aged woman believed to be returning from a day’s hustle at the market.
She died on the spot, her lifeless body a chilling reminder of the fragility of life on Nigerian roads. Other occupants of the vehicle, including the driver, sustained severe injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital by passersby and emergency responders.
Blood stained the tarred road as traders, commuters, and residents gathered at the scene, some in tears, others in silence – frozen by the sheer horror of what had just occurred.
One eyewitness described the sound of the collision as “thunderous,” sending shockwaves through nearby shops and stalling traffic for miles.
“This is someone’s mother, someone’s everything,” the witness added, voice cracking.
“She probably had plans to return home with food for her grandchildren. Now she’s gone, just like that.”
The Agbowo-Ojoo axis, known for its bustling traffic and lack of strict enforcement of traffic rules, has once again become the site of unimaginable sorrow.
Residents are now calling on relevant authorities to enforce stricter safety measures and station more traffic officials around this hazardous stretch.
As dusk fell, only a battered Micra, splattered goods, and the agonizing cries of those who knew the victim remained – a haunting image of a life abruptly stolen and the lives forever altered.
