Petrol attendant, firefighter fall into underground fuel tank in Lagos [READ FULL DETAILS]

Emergency responders, on Tuesday, rescued a petrol attendant who fell into an underground petrol reservoir at Con Oil Petrol Station, Capitol Road, Agege, area of Lagos State.

Also, a Lagos State Fire Service Search and Rescue Officer fell in during the rescue operation. He was also brought out safe.

According to an eyewitness, the incident happened at about 6 p.m., yesterday.

Permanent Secretary of Lagos State Emergency Management Authourity, LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the incident.

Oke-Osanyitolu explained: “Upon arrival of the agency response team to the incident scene, it was discovered that one of the workers in the aforementioned filling station fell into the underground petrol tank. He was attempting to check the level of fuel in their tank.

“With the quick intervention of the emergency responders, the petrol attendant was rescued from the underground tank.

“However, while rescuing the victim, the Lagos State Fire Service Search and Rescue Officer that rescued him slipped, and in turn also fell into the underground petrol tank.

“The Search and Rescue Officer, who fell into the underground tank, was also successfully rescued.

“No mortality was recorded in the incident.”

Officials of Lagos State Ambulances Service, LASAMBUS, subsequently, attended to the victims to stabilise them before being moved to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH, for further treatment.
