JUST IN: Oyo, Lagos, Ogun Declare Public Holiday

Governors in Oyo and Lagos States have declared Wednesday, August 20, 2025, a public holiday to mark this year’s Isese Day celebration.

In Oyo, Governor Seyi Makinde approved the work-free day, with the announcement made in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Olanike Adeyemo, and released on Monday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju.

Makinde urged residents of the state to use the occasion to pray for peace, unity, and stability in Oyo State and Nigeria at large.

Similarly, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos declared the same date a public holiday for workers in the state. According to a circular issued by the Head of Service, Huiel Bode Agoro, the directive applies to all public servants.

ALSO, The Ogun State Government has announced Wednesday, August 20, 2025 as a public holiday to commemorate the annual Isese Day celebration.

Isese Day, dedicated to the celebration of Yoruba traditional religion and culture, is observed annually in several South-West states.
