Madumere, who is aims to replace Governor Rochas Okorocha in 2019, was impeached on monday by 19 of the 27 members of the Imo State House of Assembly.
Impeachment proceedings against him propelled on 10th of July 2018, when Ugonna Ozuruigbo, the Deputy Speaker, moved a motion accusing him of abandoning his duties and failing to carry out official duties assigned to him by the Governor, among others.
The house then set up a six-man committee headed by Kennedy Ibe, the member representing Obowo Local Government Area, to probe the allegations and report back within seven days.
Madumere’s governorship ambition has pitched him against Okorocha, who is rooting for Uche Nwosu, his son-inlaw and current Chief of Staff.
Okorocha and Madumere belong to two different factions of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
