GWR: Oyo-based Chef, Tope Maggie, completes 200-hour Cookathon

An Oyo State-based chef, Adebayo Ayodeji Temitope, also known as Tope Maggie, has successfully completed a 200-hour-long cooking marathon in the Ogbomoso area of the state.

In an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual, currently held by Irish chef Alan Fisher, Chef Tope cooked from Thursday, 9 November 2023, to Saturday, 18 November 2023.

The cooking marathon took place at Ogbomoso Recreation Club, opposite LAUTECH College of Health Sciences, Isale-General, in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

Announcing the development on Saturday via its X page, the Oyo State Government congratulated the chef and wished him the best of luck as he awaits confirmation as the new world record holder for the longest cooking hours by an individual.

The statement reads,

“We join the good people of Ogbomoso and, indeed, Oyo State, to congratulate Prince Adebayo Ayodeji Temitope @cheftopemaggie on completing his 200-hour Cookathon. He started cooking on Thursday, 9 November 2023, at 6:31 p.m. and ended earlier today, Saturday, 18 November 2023, at 2:31 a.m. We look forward to the final verification and award of the new world record by the Guinness World Record @GWR team.”

If confirmed as the new record holder, Chef Tope, a graduate of the Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Osun State, will be the second Nigerian to hold the title after another Nigerian chef, Hilda Baci, who once held the title after cooking for 93 hours and 11 minutes.
