Ole Gunnar Solskjaer endured mixed emotions on Friday as Manchester United lost one and won the other of their two friendlies with promotion chasing West Brom.
The United manager was keen for his squad to get a competitive run-out after seeing their friendly with Stoke City called off earlier this week when opposition manager Michael O’Neill tested positive for corona virus.
United, who resume their Premier League season against Tottenham started with Bruno Fernandes paired in midfield with Paul Pogba in the first game.
Fernandes, their £47million January signing from Sporting Lisbon, continued his good form by scoring once again.
However, a determined Albion side, who blooded some of their youngsters late on, hit back with goals from Matt Phillips and striker Kenneth Zohore to run out 2-1 winners.
Solskjaer put out two strong sides at Old Trafford as United played two games of 90 minutes with the first game kicking off around 1pm and the second two hours later.
England striker Marcus Rashford showed signs he was back to full fitness as he lined up with Anthony Martial in attack though Albion’s defence kept the Frenchman relatively quiet.
