The Court Of Appeal, has attested the election the saw Yahaya Bello become the governor of Kogi State for a second term.
The Court has upheld the election that saw Yahaya Bello become the governor of Kogi State in the Governorship poll held on November 2019 and has dismissed appeal filed by four political parties questioning the governor’s re-election.

Parties the filed appeal were;
  • Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),
  • The Social Democratic Party (SDP),

APP had accused Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of unlawfully excluded it from the governorship election in the state. Presiding Judge Justice Mohammed Shuaibu dismissed the party’s appeal. He attested to the decision of the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal which dismissed the petition filed by the APP and awarded a cost of N100,000 against the party.

The appellate court also dismissed the appeal filed by the Democratic Peoples Party (DPP) challenging Governor Bello’s victory in the November 2019 governorship election.

Appeal of Natasha Akpoti gubernatorial candidate of the SDP was also dismissed as she could not prove the alleged discrepancies in the election that saw Gov. Yahaya Bello become the governor of Kogi State for a second term.

On his part, Mr. Musa Wada of the PDP was penalized by the court and his appeal was also dismissed. Mr. Wada was ordered to pay a sum of N100,000 each to Gov Yahaya Bello, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and INEC, who were listed as respondents in the appeal.
