The Oyo State Fire Services Agency has recovered the body of a two-year-old girl (name withheld) from a deep well at Orita Mokola Junction, Seedu Sabarumu, Sango in the Saki Local Government Area of the state.
Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Fire Services Agency Reform, Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident to The PUNCH on Wednesday in Ibadan.
According to Akinwande, the emergency was reported to the Saki Zonal Fire Station at exactly 1:43 p.m. by a resident who ran into the station to seek help.
“Our officers, led by PFS11 Saka, immediately moved to the scene. On arrival, we were informed that a girl had fallen into the well,” Akinwande said.

He stated that using rescue equipment, fireman CFM Adediran Jacob went into the well and recovered the girl’s body, which was handed over to a police team led by CSP Odunbanjo Kehinde for further necessary action.
While the cause of the incident is still unknown, Akinwande stated that the Fire Service’s Post-Incident Investigation Team has begun a probe to determine what happened.
He also advised residents to cover wells and septic pits properly to prevent such tragedies.
“We urge the general public to take all safety precautions to prevent open wells and pits from becoming death traps,” he said.
