A devastating fire destroyed a private residential building of six rooms in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Monday.
Eyewitnesses told Newsmen that the incident occurred at No. S4/593B Olubi Primary School, Wesley, Elekuro, in the Ibadan South-East Local Government Area of the state, around 10:00 am.
It was further gathered that, although no casualties were recorded, the fire severely damaged the building before the fire service was able to save all nearby buildings and property.
Confirming the incident in Ibadan, the Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Fire Services Agency Reform, Maroof Akinwande, said,
“The fire was caused by an unattended domestic cooking gas cylinder which exploded and set the building ablaze.

“The distress call was reported at exactly 10:22 am on Monday, June 16, through the Security Trust Fund toll-free line, reporting a house on fire at the above address.
“The agency’s personnel, led by ACFS Adekola (Mrs), promptly deployed to the scene. On arrival, it was a private residential building engulfed by fire. We swiftly swung into action and prevented the fire from spreading to other nearby buildings and property.”
He therefore advised the public to avoid nonchalant attitudes while cooking, particularly when using domestic gas and electric cookers, to prevent unwanted fire disasters.
