The management of Osun State University, Osogbo, has confirmed that five students from the institution tragically lost their lives in a fatal road accident along the Ife-Ibadan Expressway on Sunday.
According to a statement issued by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Ademola Adesoji, the accident occurred around the Balogun area in Ikire, where a total of 10 people lost their lives. The incident involved a collision between a bus traveling from Ibadan and an 18-passenger bus coming from Osogbo, resulting in multiple casualties.
The university, upon receiving the devastating news, quickly sent a team to the site to assist in identifying and supporting any affected students. Unfortunately, the university confirmed the deaths of the following students:
*Olagbemide Dotun, a 200-level Software Engineering student
*Suleiman Farouq Adedayo, a 400-level Law student
*Ogundare Pelumi, a 300-level Public Health student
*Ogundare Elijah, a 100-level Mechanical Engineering student
*Olawuyi Mary, a 200-level Nursing student

One student, Olagbemide Damilola, a 200-level Medicine and Surgery student, survived the crash and is currently receiving medical treatment. According to the police, a total of 10 people perished in the accident.
Expressing sorrow over the incident, Adesoji stated that the university would provide both moral and logistical support to the families of the deceased, including assistance with funeral arrangements.
The statement concluded,
“This tragic loss has deeply shaken our university community. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of the deceased.
We urge our students, staff, and the entire university community to remain calm and supportive during this difficult time. Osun State University will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the grieving families and pray that they find strength and solace during this time of loss.”
