NIGERIA’S former Middleweight Boxing Champion, Jerry Okorodudu is dead

Los Angeles 84 Olympian and former middleweight boxing champion, Jerry Okorodudu is dead.

 

 

The 64-year old ex-assistant Boxing Coach at the Sports Ministry died in a Private Hospital in Lawanson, Lagos.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Okorodudu has been down with stroke and foot cancer. A few weeks, he called for help from Nigerians to come to his aid as he was unable to offset his bills particularly that of the hospital.

The hospital had threatened to stop treatment some time last week and his wife made a passionate appeal again for help.

 

Okorodudu was laid off from his coaching job in the ministry few years ago but the immediate Sports Minister, Hon. Sunday Dare promised to reinstate him.

 

 

Dare couldn’t fulfil his promise before he left office on May 29.

Okorodudu is renowned for his flamboyant style of boxing. He exudes great confidence while injecting fears into his opponents through his talks before a bout.

Okorodudu will be greatly missed by the sports fraternity especially stakeholders in Nigerian boxing.

Rest in peace Okorodudu!!!
